The Peripheral Scholarship Foundation - World Vegetable Center
Since I got involved with Peripheral Life & Style in 2015 I have been working side by side with founders Douglas and Kiristen to help build the brand and raise awareness that what Peripheral does is so much more than just sunglasses.
Now after months of planning and organizing I am honored, humbled and excited to announce that Peripheral Life & Style and the World Vegetable Center have joined forces and created the Peripheral Scholarship Foundation; A cause designed to give support and funding to individuals studying agriculture in Africa and to raise awareness of the role vegetables play in improving health, reducing global poverty and hunger.
The growth of sustainable vegetable farming in Africa directly reduces poverty by:
-creating new jobs and new sources of income for farmers and landless laborers
-increasing overall health by providing essential micronutrients lacking in most diets
-enhancing learning and working capacities of adults and children
-improving the sustainability of food production by diversifying crop systems
The Center’s research and development work focuses on breeding improved vegetable lines, developing and promoting safe production practices, reducing post-harvest losses, and improving the nutritional value of vegetables.
“There is an urgent need to develop capacity in these disciplines in African countries,” says Dr. Thomas Dubois, Regional Director, World Vegetable Center Eastern and Southern Africa. “The Peripheral Scholarship Foundation will help extend educational opportunities to those who will benefit most.”
Now when you purchase a pair of FOODIE Causeline, any Baseline or my Signature Series ‘DB’ sunglasses from the Peripheral website www.plife.ky you can select the World Vegetable Center as your cause. 100% of your donation will go directly to the Foundation and help send a bright African student to study at the World Vegetable Center.

World Vegetable Center - TAIWAN – 8th August, 2016
Living things, like vegetables and people, need sunlight to grow and thrive. But when the sun gets too strong, it helps to have a friend who can provide some shade.
The World Vegetable Center is pleased to announce the creation of the Peripheral Scholarship Foundation in conjunction with Peripheral Life & Style, a unique lifestyle brand based in the Cayman Islands.
Peripheral Life & Style is dedicated to helping individuals, causes and groups overcome social and economic boundaries to achieve their dreams—one way they achieve this goal is through the sale of sunglasses.
When you purchase of a pair of PLS Baseline or Causeline sunglasses, Peripheral will contribute up to 50% of the price directly to the cause of your choice.
Peripheral contacted the World Vegetable Center to explore how its socially responsible business model could benefit the Center’s research and development activities. The Center seeks to increase the production and consumption of safe and nutritious vegetables throughout developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
“We felt the best use of Peripheral contributions would be to support fellowships for young researchers in Africa and elsewhere,” said Dr. Thomas Dubois, Regional Director, World Vegetable Center Eastern and Southern Africa. “Often, when these students embark on their research, they are unable to obtain the funds to support their activities and expenses.
A modest stipend from the sale of PL&S sunglasses could ensure students can complete their work and go forward to make significant contributions in agriculture, nutrition and horticulture in their countries. There is an urgent need to develop capacity in these disciplines in African countries,” Dr. Dubois said. “The Peripheral Scholarship Foundation will help extend educational opportunities to those who will benefit most.”
Dylan Benoit, one of PLS’s founding partners says “We wanted to team up with an organization that has a focus on making food easier to access in impoverishes areas. The Peripheral Scholarship Foundation will help support these brilliant students and aid in creating sustainable agricultural practices, in turn making nutritional meals more widely available to the people of Africa. World hunger is a large issue but every bit counts, and our small actions can make a real difference.”
Peripheral is a group of creators and collaborators that is quickly growing into a global network of people seeking to make a difference both locally and internationally. Every pair of sunglasses has a direct impact so you can look good and feel great knowing your purchase is making a difference in the world.
Getting involved is as easy as going to www.plife.ky, selecting your sunglasses, and then selecting the cause you wish to support—like the Peripheral Scholarship Foundation and the World Vegetable Center.
